More Than Expected: Just in Time

Hollywood thrives on “Just In Time” story-telling. Pictures of escaping burning buildings, screeching trains, barking dogs, and dangerous villains all pop into our heads when we think about “Just In Time” moments. I experienced two “Just In Time” moments on my recent journey.
First, in Lebanon, I noticed that everyone seemed to be talking about the economy. Having visited Lebanon two years earlier I realized this was different than before. On my final day in the country I asked why so many people were talking about Lebanon’s financial situation and the politicians involved. I also asked if there was a chance of a war or conflict. The person explained the economy had gotten much worse but the politicians always seemed to negotiate a treaty. The day I left Lebanon, the government revealed numerous new taxes, including a levy on the WhatsApp platform. WhatsApp is the primary communication form for Lebanese people. It serves as a free option to text, call, send pictures and documents, and leave voice messages for individuals or groups. By the time I landed in The Netherlands the next morning, Lebanese people were gathering in Beirut. Four hundred thousand protesters chanted while schools and most of the city shut down. Lebanon has four million citizens, so one in ten people gathered to share their disgust with the government. People were beaten and a few died in these demonstrations. Meanwhile, by God’s grace, I landed safely for the next leg of my journey. I exited Lebanon “Just in Time.”
While in The Netherlands I learned that my 91-year-old Uncle Charlie had been taken to the hospital. The next day he passed away and went to be with his Savior in heaven. I was unsure when the funeral would be held. I returned on Monday and his celebration service was held the next morning. I was tired at the event, but I had arrived home “Just in Time.”
God intimately understands timing. 1 Peter 5:6 reads, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” God is in the lifting up business! The next verse encourages people to cast their anxiety upon God because He cares. I experienced God’s “Just in Time” mercy but He is also doing this for all of us every day. Open your eyes and watch for His timing. I promise, it will be “More Than Expected!”
