Watch and Pray!

by Dr. Joseph O'Femi Adeosun; V.P. for C.E. Africa

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”

Matthew 13:32-37

Our Lord Jesus who was fully God and at same fully man knew the surest key to success in life. If we want to have a lasting success be it in the ministry or fields of human endeavor, Lord Jesus who had seen it all stressed we should watch and pray.

Many times we pray but forgot to watch along. To be watchful is to be committed and be mindful of our environment. If we cannot say with all boldness that we watch as we pray, such can make our activities or assignments ineffective. It is noteworthy that "watch" comes before "pray". A great leader of God's people in The Bible , Nehemiah applied this method and became very successful. "Let each man and his servant stay at night in Jerusalem, that they may be our guard by night and a working party by day". (Neh.4:22-23).

We have so many parasites or intruders invading our operations arena today because either we forgot to watch or felt its unimportant. Lord Jesus said, "Watch and Pray". It is not Pray and Watch or Praying minus Watching. Living for The Lord may be tiring but let's stay committed and be mindful of our environment. (Ps.1). May The Lord fill us with the required strength in Jesus Name. Amen!!!
